QUESTION OF THE WEEK

FUE: White Dots

White Dots in FUE

FUE is a common method of extracting hairs during a hair transplant. The follicles are extracted one follicular unit at a time using a circular instrument. The area heals with a tiny, often very difficult to see, circular scar. But a scar always forms (the FUE is not scarless). These circular scars can be seen in the photo. In the first few weeks of healing the surrounding skin may be red, making the contrast between the FUE circular scar and the scalp skin more noticeable. Overtime, the redness goes away in many patients leaving a little circular area where the hair follicles were extracted.
