QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Cutis Verticis Gyrata (CVG)

Ridges and Folds

CVG is a condition where extreme scalp ridging occurs. The cause of this is still unknown. Although the majority of individuals with CVG are healthy, a small proportion have neurological and hormonal issues.

Treatment is difficult, although surgical excision of the furrow has been reported to be successful. Placement of a filler (like poly-L--lactic acid) may also help.  Hyaluronidase injections has also been described.
