MINOXIDIL: DO I NEED TO SEE MY DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING?
QUESTION: I see minoxidil in the store and wonder if I can just start it or do I need to see my doctor?
1000s and 1000's of individuals start minoxidil without their doctor's advice. So you wouldn't be alone in doing so. However, my advice is to check with your doctor first before using any medication. You'll want to make sure you don't have any reasons why you should not use this medication - (we call this medical contraindications). Also, if you are not sure - you'll want to ensure that the reason for your is genetic hair loss and not another type of hair loss. There are a lot of hair loss conditions that look the same, so it's easy to get fooled.
Minoxidil is only FDA approved got androgenetic hair loss.
