The end goal of a "scalp biopsy" is to remove a core of tissue that is 4 mm in diameter and that extends well into the subcutaneous tissue level underneath the hair bulbs.
This sample here will be placed in formalin and sent to a dermatopathologist (skin pathologist) to be analyzed.
