Are hair transplants possible for alopecia areata?

Q: I have alopecia areata and would like a transplant. Is this a good option?

A: Hair transplants are NOT an option for patients with alopecia areata in 99.9 % of cases. If you are told it's an option, get many, many professional opinions (let's say 5). Hair transplantation is rarely a good option. Transplanted hairs are likely to be lost. There is far too much unsubstantiated discussion about hair transplants for alopecia areata. I have seen countless numbers of patients with unsuccessful transplants. This is one of the hair loss conditions that can not be transplanted in the vast majority of situations.
