The contrasting hair card tests for darker hair colors. The use of a piece of paper of contrasting color to the hair is an excellent means to evaluate recent changes in hair growth. This immediately informs me that either a massive telogen shed occured 4 months ago or a growth promoting agent was started 4 months ago. In this case it helped pinpoint regrowth from use of minoxidil.
