Scarring Alopecia Activity

Scarring alopecias cause permanent hair loss. The "active" stage is when they cause hair loss. When they are no longer causing hair loss, they are said to be "inactive" or "quiet." An inactive or quiet scarring alopecia can still become active (i.e. "reactivate") at any time. Generally, if a scarring alopecia has been quiet for many years, it is unlikely to "reactivate." Monitoring is necessary until that time.
