LPP

 

Lichen planopilaris (LPP) is a scarring hair loss condition that is associated with inflammation.  As can be seen in this microsopic image of a patient's LPP biopsy, this inflammation surrounds hair follicles, this leads to the destruction of the cells of the hair follicle. Destruction of a specific cell in hair follicles type known as "stem cells" leads to the inability of hair follicles to regrow.
