QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Minoxidil vs Latisse for the Eyebrows: How do they compare?

Latisse vs Minoxidil: Which is better for promoting eyebrow growth?

There are several possible options for promoting and improvement in eyebrow density in individuals with thin eyebrows. Minoxidil (Rogaine and generics) and Bimatoprost (Latisse) are the first line options. How do they compare? Is one better?

3% Minoxidil  and 0.03 % Bimatoprost (Latisse) are Similarly Effective for Eyebrows

To date, it appears minoxidil and Latisse are equally effective. A small 16 week study from 2012 compared results in 27 patients who were applying Latisse to one brow and 3% minoxidil to the other.   In the minoxidil group, the eyebrow hair of 51.85% of patients (14 ⁄ 27) was evaluated to be slightly increased. In the bimatoprost group, the eyebrow hair of 59.26% of patients (16 ⁄ 27) was found to be slightly increased.  At the end of the 16 week study, patient satisfaction was assessed by use of questionnaires. In the minoxidil group, 44.44% (12 ⁄ 27) reported much improvement. In the bimatoprost group, 40.74% (11 of 27) reported moderate improvement.

Conclusion:

Minoxidil and Bimatoprost (Latisse) are good options for the eyebrows and appear similar in effectiveness.
