Hair Loss with Normal Blood tests -How can it be?

Can you have hair loss when your blood tests are normal?

It comes as a surprise to many patients that one can have hair loss when all the blood tests come back normal. This certainly can occur and in fact is fairly common! A high proportion of those with androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, and scarring alopecias have normal blood tests.

Blood tests are an essential part of the evaluation for hair loss, especially for women. But they are only a part. A full history of the hair loss and an examination of the scalp are essential.
