Scarring Alopecia 101: A Closer Look at the Basics of Scarring Alopecia.

The scarring alopecias are a group of hair loss conditions and also known by the name cicatricial alopecia. All scarring alopecias are associated with the development of scarring tissue (fibrosis) of some kind within the scalp which ultimately makes it difficult for hairs to grow. Affected patients typically experience permanent hair loss.
